Important information about the information middle school
- After successfully completing school, you will receive a federal vocational baccalaureate and a federal certificate of proficiency in information technology, specializing in application development (EFZ).
- You get access to studies at universities of applied sciences, at higher technical colleges or practical training
Duration of school: 4 years (3 years of classes + 1 year of internship)
School years: until 15. school year
Exam Type:
- 2022: separate audit for the IMS
- from 2023 (expected): ZAP 3 (these are the same requirements as for the Fachmittelschule and the Berufsmittelschule).

Examination subjects and form
- 2022: German, French and Mathematics

- Prerequisites: Entry from the 3rd grade (11th school year) of secondary education (level A or B) or after an equivalent education.
- Age Limit: Students who are 18 years of age prior to May 1 of the year of entry will not be eligible for the entrance exam.
Final Exam Grade:
- 2022: 100% examination grade (40% mathematics, 40% German, 20% French)
- from 2023 (expected):
- Sec A students who are in Level 1 in all examination subjects (if there are requirement levels): 50% examination grade (German and mathematics ½ each), 50% experience grade (German, mathematics (incl. geometry), French, English, science, work and learning behavior of the January report card 1/6 each).
- Sek A students who are NOT in Level 1 in all examination subjects (if there are requirement levels) and Sek B students with recommendation of the Sek class teacher and students from a private school: 100% examination grade (German and mathematics ½ each).
Exam passed:
- 2022: Examination grade in writing at least 4.0
- from 2023 (expected):
- With inclusion of advance performance: final examination grade at least 4.5
- Without inclusion of prior achievement: Examination grade at least 4.25

What are the admission requirements for the computer science middle school?
In order to be admitted to the IMS entrance examination, you must meet certain requirements. Among other things, you must have completed the third level of secondary education at A or B level, or have completed an equivalent level of education. And you must not be over 18 years of age before the IMS school start date (May 1).
Only once these factors have been fulfilled can you turn your attention to what is really important and take the IT college entrance exam in Bern Register.
